  1. Fascinating analysis! I must confess that while I am aware of the vague idea of a conspiracy about lizard people secretly ruling the world (which Pat Mills explores far more explicitly in his comic series Finn), I had no idea it had direct connotations of anti-semitism. I choose to believe that Mills did not intend this to come across as something he has any truck with, or, more likely, for it to be another way for him to make his bad guys REALLY evil, something he loves to do.I can’t imagine you’ll bother to read the remaining chapters of the books of Invasions (I’m afraid the homophobic jokes get worse before they get better), but it ends in a really interesting place, and is very much about interpreting some version of the myth of the Scots and Gaelic people.

I’m also intrigued by your anger at how Sláine handles the decision to fight off the invaders. I’ve never entirely enjoyed the Books of Invasions cycle and think you might have found one solid reason why not. (although as I say it gets better, and the ‘Sláine the Wanderer’ sequence that follows is some of the more fun Sláine work in my opinion)

Should you be interested, I’ve also recently re-read all of Sláine, and have been blogging about it. But be warned, I first met the character through ‘Tomb of Terror’ and ‘Time Killer’ so my delight in Sláine stories starts in a rather different place from your own 🙂

    1. Hi Alex, thanks for your support and for your kind and thoughtful comments. Mills is eclectic in his inspirations, it’s one of the great things about his writing. I haven’t read Finn though I know the character thanks to Third World War Volume I which was really, really good. I’m intrigued now about the rest of BoI and I’m sure it would be an interesting read.
I agree, the Wanderer contains some of the very best short-form Sláine stories.
Tomb of Terror and stories like that definitely have an old-school charm. I’d be very interested to read that, can you throw in a link here for myself and others to follow?

  2. So, the nature of my blog as a ranked list of Sláine stories means it’s not very efficient fior navigating to thoughts on particular storylines!

This is probably as good a place as any read about the Boks of Invasions:https://slaineranked.blogspot.com/2024/08/slaine-ranked-part-10-shock-of-new.html

And go here for my gushing thoughts on Tomb of Terror:https://slaineranked.blogspot.com/2024/08/slaine-ranked-part-11-you-wont-find.html

and Time Killer here (scroll down a bit):https://slaineranked.blogspot.com/2024/08/slaine-ranked-part-13-all-fun-all-time.html

    1. I am unable to comment on the posts themselves due to my awkward privacy settings, but I am really enjoying them! Yes, in spite of what I said about it, Tomb of Terror is an absolute blast
